In 2014 my wife and I moved to the western fringes of Concord, NH, to a home bordering hundreds of acres of mixed habitat including fields, woodlands, and the shores of Turkey Pond. The abundance and variety of birdlife ignited a desire to recognize and understand the birds in my neighborhood and elsewhere. This new passion naturally met up with my old love of photography. The challenge of capturing sharp and evocative portraits of birds amplified the enjoyment of becoming an aspiring birder. Birds often must be photographed in low light and at high shutter speeds – a technical conundrum that photographers prefer to avoid. Resolving that conundrum into an individualized, dynamic, high-resolution image is the nexus of my artistic effort.
In addition to capturing photographs of the birds, I enjoy sharing some of what I see and learn through an occasional blog called Why Birds Blog at www.carlcooley.photography/blog
